Gramática: present perfect con for, since y how long

FormaEstructuraEjemplo
Afirmativasujeto + have/has + participioThe danza del venado has been practiced in Sonora since the pre-Hispanic era.
Negativasujeto + haven’t/hasn’t + participioForeign folk dances haven’t been common in Mexico.
PreguntaHave/Has + sujeto + participio…?Have you met someone who practices folk dances?

Usa has con he, she, it (y con un sujeto en singular) y have con I, you, we, they.

For, since y how long

  • Since + el momento en que empezó (una fecha, un año, un suceso): since 2010, since the 16th century, since I was six.

  • For + cuánto tiempo lleva (una duración): for five years, for half an hour, for about 500 years.

  • How long + present perfect pregunta por la duración: How long have…?

  • How long have piñatas existed in Mexico?

  • Piñatas have existed in Mexico since the 16th century.

  • Piñatas have existed in Mexico for about 500 years.

Un truco: si en español dirías «desde», usa since; si dirías «durante» o «desde hace», usa for.

1. ¿Cuándo se usa since y cuándo for?

Since va con el momento en que algo empezó (since 2010, since I was a child); for va con una duración (for ten years, for a long time).

My family has lived here since 2015. Family es singular (has) y 2015 es el punto de inicio (since).
